SUFFOLK WEDDING MAKE UP ARTIST
In the past, I have been in the fortunate position to have worked with some of the most amazing wedding suppliers in Suffolk and across the UK, with many of which becoming great friends. I know that many of my prospective and current clients check out my blog from time to time to see what I’ve been up to, which got me thinking. What better way to introduce some of my trusted vendor friends to my clients than to give them the spotlight for 5 minutes here on my blog where they could tell us about their business, their inspirations and what makes them tick. So here you have it, a new series of interviews has been born, I hope you enjoy them.
Today I had the chance to sit down with Sophie Saunders, an amazing wedding make up artist who is based in Ipswich, UK. I had the real pleasure of working alongside Sophie this year on a couple of occasions and she's always been really amazing to work with. She's also a super-lovely person too.
For those readers who may not have come across your work before, please can you tell us a little about your background and how you got into wedding make up artistry?
Sophie: My passion to become a make up artists stemmed back from when I was at school and I had a love of everything art based and creative. With strong make up influences surrounding me I naturally gravitated towards a career in make up artistry.
In three words how would you describe your brand/business?
Sophie: As a make up artist I am creative, have strong attention to detail and love challenging myself to create something unique and special for my clients.
Who or what inspires the creativity in your work?
Sophie: I love to follow up and coming make up artists because they always provide new and creative work to make them stand out. I also follow a wide variety of celebrity make up artists to keep up to date on the latest trends.
What trends are you currently seeing and how do you predict the future looks for wedding make up here in the UK?
Sophie: The future is HD airbrush makeup everything. It gives the skin and make up the most flawless look, which everybody wants at the moment. People also seem to be much more comfortable experimenting with colours which is very exciting as you can really make eyes POP if you use the right colours!
How far in advance do you suggest couples come talk to you about their wedding make up?
Sophie: It depends really, I have brides who are super organised that like to book years in advance and then I have people who book last minute. Unfortunately if you are on the latter side most makeup artists are already booked up. So if you see an artist’s work you really love don’t hesitate to get booked with them, as the likelihood is they are really in demand!
Which wedding blogs or magazines do you recommend that couples check out, in order to gain inspiration?
Sophie: This is a hard one as there are so many different ones for different styles. I personally like Rock My Wedding, Hitched and check out instagram for some local wedding organisers – you can generally pick out the bad from the good by looking through their content!
What advice would you give couples when choosing their wedding make up artist?
Sophie: You can look through portfolio after portfolio of different artists but what is best is to speak to an artist and see if you get a good feeling from them. If an artist has the ability to really understand their clients needs the end product will be exactly what you are looking for. I personally speak in detail with my clients about everything to do with their wedding so that I can get a really good idea of who they are and what their style is.
Finally, what's the best thing about being a wedding make up artist?
Sophie: I love working with such a variety of people and being a part of one of the most special days of their life. I like making people feel beautiful and special and ensuring they walk down the aisle feeling perfect!
My sincere thanks to Sophie for her time. If you would like to speak to Sophie about your forthcoming wedding, please check out her website.
