Pre-Wedding Shoot

A Spring Shingle Street Engagement in Suffolk / Jenny & Daniel

Last month I met up with Jenny & Daniel for their engagement session at the stunningly serene Shingle Street in Suffolk.

The guys chose the location as it is somewhere they love to come together, to get away from it all with their dog Layla and so it was a perfect fit as the place to document this chapter in their wedding story.

April saw a number of really fun shoots for me and Erika & Nathan's engagement shoot was certainly no exception. The guys are getting married in early June, with a traditional church ceremony followed by a reception at The Last Anchor in Ipswich and I really can't wait to capture it for them. Erika and Nathan chose the picturesque setting of Christchurch Park in Ipswich town centre for their engagement shoot.  We headed out mid-morning and visited a number of quiet parts of the grounds to capture some fun, informal portraits of the guys.

I recently took the short ride to the small Suffolk village of Belstead for Danielle & Aston's engagement shoot.  Passing the private residence where their late April wedding will be held, we made our way to a clearing within a neighbouring woodland to capture some intimate pre-wedding images just before the sun came down.

What to expect from your engagement shoot / Part Two / The Shoot

What to expect from your engagement shoot / Part Two / The Shoot

Following on from part one in this series, I wanted to get straight into part two which is all about the actual shoot itself.

I explained previously that one of the main benefits of having an engagement shoot is to have the opportunity to work with your photographer before the big day.  Often my clients are booking me a year or more in advance, so it is vital that we have touch points throughout the build up to the wedding, in order to really get to know each other, so that everyone concerned is really comfortable on the day.  I always tell my clients that my aim is for me to feel like a friend with a camera on the day, rather than just that guy they've hired, so its super important that I make every effort in the run up to the wedding to create a memorable experience that always exceeds expectations.

Over the past few years it has become common place for wedding photographers to offer their clients 'Engagement Shoots', sometimes also referred to as 'Pre-wedding Shoots' as part of their services.

If you have been researching wedding photographers lately, you have probably noticed that many of the 'collections' or 'packages' offered include such a shoot, but unless you have come across the term before, or have friends that have gotten married recently, you may not fully know what to expect from such a session and so I thought that it would be helpful to explain how I run my engagement shoots to enable you to consult with your prospective wedding photographers a little more clued up.

A SUN-SOAKED SUFFOLK COAST ENGAGEMENT / MEL & FREDDIE

It's always a pleasure to take advantage of the beautiful coastline we have here in Suffolk and so when Mel & Freddie said that they would love to head to the beach for their engagement shoot, it was a really good day. A short walk down the coast in Old Felixstowe, Suffolk enabled us to hang out and get some really cool, fun images to celebrate this time in their wedding journey.  It was great to catch up with the guys and hear all about how the preparations were coming along. Mel & Freddie have such a connection whenever they are around each other and it was really lovely to be around to capture this energy in their portraits.

A Suffolk Countryside Engagement in Thorpeness / Kerry & Graham

Kerry & Graham are to get married at The Church of St Andrew,  in AldringhamSuffolk next month, followed by a beautiful reception at The Dolphin Inn, in Thorpeness.  The day sounds like its going to be really amazing and I was super excited to catch up with them again last week for their engagement shoot. The guys chose a really beautiful countryside walk setting, near to home in Thorpeness,as walking is something they really love to do whenever they can.  So accompanied by Graham's beautiful dog, Ben, we headed out on what seemed like was going to be a little drizzly April afternoon, but were really grateful that the sky opened up just at the right time and gave us some lovely dry weather just when we needed it.

I had such fun and it was really an honour to celebrate their engagement with images full of fun, love and laughter to really treasure.

A Fun Norfolk Coastline Engagement in Blakeney / Claire + Mark

blakeney wedding engagement shoot - norfolk - rossdeanphotography.com

Something I especially love about my job is that I get a chance to experience new places tucked away in corners of the country that I haven't visited before.   So when Claire & Mark told me that they had decided to choose Blakeney in Norfolk as the location for their engagement shoot I was intrigued and excited to experience this small village they obviously have such a close affection for. Blakeney itself is a gorgeous coastal village on the North Norfolk coast which dates back to medieval times when it was once a bustling commercial port.  Today, it's a stunning part of Norfolk offering long walks along the coastline and an array of eateries and small shops, making it a very popular tourist destination.

The village is particularly dear to Claire and Mark because they often spend new year down there tucked up in a gorgeous little cottage, enjoying the experience with good friends and good food.  After a spot of lunch, we headed down to the shore, along the promenade and throughout the village streets to capture their engagement images.  I'm very blessed to do what I do and that I get to work with something truly lovely people.  Claire and Mark are no exception and being around them for the afternoon, it was evident how perfect they are for one another, with their playful affection  shining through in their finished images.

I'm really excited to be shooting their wedding this July at Woodhall Manor, near Woodbridge.  Here are a collection of images from the day.

Lisa + Daryl {Engaged} - Ipswich Waterfront - Ipswich Engagement & Wedding Photographer

RDPHOTO-8_mini

I must admit I'm very excited about shooting the wedding next month for Lisa & Daryl. I met up with them last Saturday for the first time since they initially booked me way back last year and it was great to catch up with them again. It seems like they're pretty much there with their preparations for the big day which will be held at All Manor of Events, in Henley, UK and it all sounds like it's going to be an awesome day. The guys were fantastic to work with as we headed down to the waterfront in Ipswich and were naturals in front of the camera - Aren't they just an amazing looking couple?

Check out some of the images from the session below. If you're looking for a modern, fun approach for your wedding photography, why not get in touch? it would be great to hear from you.

Chris + Simone {Engaged} - The Saatchi Gallery - London Engagement Photography

RDPHOTO-24_mini

Last weekend saw me travel down to London to meet Chris & Simone for their engagement shoot. The guys are getting married at Lavenham Church in Suffolk next month and so it was great to catch up with them again to find out how all the preparations were going.

They really are a fantastic couple and throughout the session, it was so obvious that they were really made for each other and were very relaxed in front of the camera. The guys decided to take me around Chelsea, ending up at the Saatchi Gallery where they love to spend time together. Unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side that day, but we didn't let that stop us, making good use of the surrounding areas of the gallery grounds.

It really was a pleasure spending the day with you guys, I'm so looking forward to your amazing wedding next month.

Here are some images captured during our session, enjoy!
