Suffolk Wedding Saxophonist // 5 Mins With The Sax Walker

In the past,  I have been in the fortunate position to have worked with some of the most amazing wedding suppliers in Suffolk and across the UK, with many of which becoming great friends.  I know that many of my prospective and current clients check out my blog from time to time to see what I’ve been up to, which got me thinking.  What better way to introduce some of my trusted vendor friends to my clients than to give them the spotlight for 5 minutes here on my blog where they could tell us about their business, their inspirations and what makes them tick.  So here you have it, a new series of interviews has been born, I hope you enjoy them.

It was a warm one! :)  Yesterday, I travelled over to the always-gorgeous Woodhall Manor in Suffolk for Kassy & Joe's big day on what was the hottest Bank Holiday Monday in recent years.

Woodhall Manor Wedding // Kelly & Ryan

Woodhall Manor Wedding // Kelly & Ryan

Kelly and Ryan were married on June 18th, with a ceremony and reception at Woodhall Manor.

On the day of the wedding, Elli (my assistant) and I arrived onsite while Kelly was getting ready in a secret room at the manor, and Ryan was in the cottage on the grounds. Although they were in separate places, they had written and exchanged cards that morning, just to start out the day the right way.

Last weekend I had the real pleasure to spend the time with two super-lovely families as Kayleigh & Dave exchanged their vows on a gorgeous September day.

The guys had chosen the exquisite Woodhall Manor wedding venue in Suffolk as their location for their wedding, as their guests were treated to a beautiful outdoor ceremony on the lawn, surrounded by the venue's glorious walled garden.

A SUN-SOAKED SUFFOLK COAST ENGAGEMENT / MEL & FREDDIE

It's always a pleasure to take advantage of the beautiful coastline we have here in Suffolk and so when Mel & Freddie said that they would love to head to the beach for their engagement shoot, it was a really good day. A short walk down the coast in Old Felixstowe, Suffolk enabled us to hang out and get some really cool, fun images to celebrate this time in their wedding journey.  It was great to catch up with the guys and hear all about how the preparations were coming along. Mel & Freddie have such a connection whenever they are around each other and it was really lovely to be around to capture this energy in their portraits.

An Amazing Woodhall Manor Wedding / Claire + Mark

RDPHOTO-193

Claire and Mark have excellent taste, choosing the beautiful All Saints Church in Hollesley, followed by the luxurious Woodhall Manor in Suffolk for their wedding.  Both of these unique venues offer such history, alongside their obvious beauty and provided a perfect setting for what was set to be an amazing day. The guys had exclusively booked Woodhall Manor for the whole weekend, which allowed Claire and her bridal party to enjoy all the delights that the venue had to offer on the night before the wedding, with Mark staying close by with the guys.  I arrived bright and early the next day to begin capturing the bridal preparations in the wedding suite of Woodhall Manor.  The main house boasts exquisite details and stunning rooms which gives for great images.  I then proceeded to capture Mark's arrival and preparations in front of the house, before shooting off to the local pub to capture the guys enjoying drinks before the ceremony, just a short walk away.

You may remember I headed off to Blakeney in Norfolk for Claire & Mark's engagement shoot a few months earlier and now with the day finally here, there was a real air of excitement as the guests congregated at the church, ready to welcome the guys for their big moment.  Claire chose a stunning horse drawn carriage, with her brother close by her side as their transportation to the church, which was greeted with open mouths when it pulled up onto the gravel.  A beautiful ceremony followed, complimented by creative readings from close friends and sublime, atmospheric music that echoed through the historic halls of All Saints.

A short ride back to Woodhall Manor and the celebrations really went up a gear, from the laughter and tears gracing the touching speeches in the stunning dining room to the dancing and jubilation of the evening celebrations that went on right into the ealry hours.

It really was a truly marvellous day and I felt so lucky to be able to capture all the memories for Claire & Mark.  They really are a tremendous couple with fantastic friends and family, who made me feel so welcome.

Guys, Wishing you every happiness as you start the next chapter of your lives together.  You're amazing people.  RD

Wedding Cinematography Inspiration in Suffolk / Camera On Films

Camera On Films, Suffolk - rossdeanphotography.com

In the past,  I have been in the fortunate position to have worked with some of the most amazing wedding suppliers in Suffolk and across the UK, with many of which becoming great friends.  I know that many of my prospective and current clients check out my blog from time to time to see what I’ve been up to, which got me thinking.  What better way to introduce some of my trusted vendor friends to my clients than to give them the spotlight for 5 minutes here on my blog where they could tell us about their business, their inspirations and what makes them tick.  So here you have it, a new series of interviews has been born, I hope you enjoy them.

Today I had the chance to sit down with videographer Alex Cameron of Camera On Films, who are based in Suffolk, UK.

Camera On Films, Suffolk - rossdeanphotography.com

Ross: For those readers who may not have come across your work before, please can you tell us a little about your background and how you got into wedding cinematography?

Alex: Sure. Well, I never wanted to be a 9 to 5'er as the thought of it just bored me to death. So when I left school I spent the first summer working at a local golf club which was really cool and decided I wanted to pursue a career in golf. I managed to get my handicap down to 4.6, the .6 is very important by the way!, but this wasn't good enough to actually turn pro and take my PGA degree. I had always been fascinated by movies and it just blew my mind thinking about all the work that went into putting a feature film together. I then had the opportunity to video a wedding for one of my girlfriend's best friends and absolutely loved the experience. It was so satisfying handing over the finished article knowing it would be something that they would always treasure that I thought if I could do this all the time and get paid for it then it would be pretty cool! About 6 months later and two more weddings filmed I started my company.

Ross: In three words how would you describe your brand/business?

Alex: Professional. Modern. Creative

Ross: Who or what inspires the creativity in your work?

Alex: Personal experiences and emotions that come about in everyday life are massively powerful tools for inspiring my work. I love catching those moments that are very real and unstaged. I love looking around at other film makers doing what we do and really enjoy watching their work. I take a lot of inspiration from looking at these amazing people producing these unbelievable films in  countries like the US and Australia then trying to improve on them or come up with my own way of achieving similar results.

Ross: What trends are you currently seeing and how do you predict the future looks for wedding cinematography in the UK?

Alex: I think there is definitely a growing trend in just having a wedding cinematographer at weddings in the UK which is a massive improvement on a few years ago. Also the average age of cinematographer is coming down too as more young film makers gain access to incredible equipment and technology. In fairness, cinematography itself is becoming a growing trend as it used to be more widely known as videography but I think the style and approach to wedding filming is now so much more like you'd see in feature films that cinematography is a much more appropriate term. I just see wedding cinematography in the UK becoming one of those necessary items on a potential Bride and Grooms wish list alongside photography. In addition to this, the way people will be watching their wedding films is definitely going to be something that will be different in the near future and I expect that in maybe 3 years we will be at a stage where all our films are delivered digitally as opposed to physical media such as DVDs.

Ross: How far in advance do you suggest couples come talk to you about their wedding movie?

Alex: I would love to get to a stage where couples are thinking about coming to speak to us alongside the same sort of time that they are looking to speak to their photographer. I would say that once they have their date set and the venue has been decided upon then it is a great time to come and speak to us.

Ross: What wedding blogs or magazines do you recommend that couples check out?

Alex: To be honest, I don't actually read a lot of wedding blogs or magazines as I don't tend to get a lot of time to do so but when I do get a chance I love to flick through Pure Weddings magazine which is a great local magazine and I often know a lot of the suppliers being featured. We also occasionally get a mention which is lovely. I also know that there is a new blog that is shortly going to be launched called the Suffolk Wedding Showcase which I will definitely be checking out whenever I can as it is the brainchild of a very good supplier friend of ours and will feature all the best bits about getting married in Suffolk.

Ross: What advice would you give couples when choosing their wedding cinematographer?

Alex:   Make sure you look at their 'actual' work before making any decisions. No fancy show reels but the actual films they are delivering to their brides and grooms. Also, I fully believe that you get what you pay for. If they promise that they can film your wedding from Bridal Preps to First Dance with two cameras and do it all for less than £800 then be cautious. Finally, make sure you pick someone who gets you and what you're about. They should be personable and professional as it is a really intimate moment in your life so you want some who you feel comfortable to share it with but trust to get the job done at the same time.

Ross: Finally, what's the best thing about being a wedding cinematographer?

Alex: I am a geek and love playing with cameras and computers! No seriously, I genuinely love being a wedding cinematographer. We get to share such lovely times with our clients and capture such incredible moments that it honestly doesn't feel like work. It is tough at times and can be very pressurising as we don't get a second chance to get it right, but the feeling that I get when we have feedback from clients that are delighted with their film makes it truly worthwhile.

My thanks to Alex Cameron for his time taken to chat with me.  If you would like to speak to Alex about your wedding movie, please visit his website at http://www.cameraonfilms.co.uk.  You can also follow Alex on Facebook & Twitter.

A Fun Norfolk Coastline Engagement in Blakeney / Claire + Mark

blakeney wedding engagement shoot - norfolk - rossdeanphotography.com

Something I especially love about my job is that I get a chance to experience new places tucked away in corners of the country that I haven't visited before.   So when Claire & Mark told me that they had decided to choose Blakeney in Norfolk as the location for their engagement shoot I was intrigued and excited to experience this small village they obviously have such a close affection for. Blakeney itself is a gorgeous coastal village on the North Norfolk coast which dates back to medieval times when it was once a bustling commercial port.  Today, it's a stunning part of Norfolk offering long walks along the coastline and an array of eateries and small shops, making it a very popular tourist destination.

The village is particularly dear to Claire and Mark because they often spend new year down there tucked up in a gorgeous little cottage, enjoying the experience with good friends and good food.  After a spot of lunch, we headed down to the shore, along the promenade and throughout the village streets to capture their engagement images.  I'm very blessed to do what I do and that I get to work with something truly lovely people.  Claire and Mark are no exception and being around them for the afternoon, it was evident how perfect they are for one another, with their playful affection  shining through in their finished images.

I'm really excited to be shooting their wedding this July at Woodhall Manor, near Woodbridge.  Here are a collection of images from the day.
