Suffolk Headshot Photographer
One of the questions I get asked most, once a client has booked in their Headshot Experience with me, is a really great one to dive into today:
What should I wear for my headshot session?
You know, it really depends on what line of business you are in and what you would like your finished headshots to convey.
I recommend that you bring up to two changes of clothes, perhaps wearing one on arrival and one to change into, mid-session, each of which being different styles.
A typical session would usually be a mixture of one more formal and corporate with the other being more casual, with some colour and more 'you'.
However, I cannot stress how important it is, that this is entirely up to you. Some of my clients work day to day in much more casual attire and vice versa and so the session is focused on just that particular look.
The main thing to think about is that your headshot should be recognisable as the person that a stranger would meet, say if they met you in person, at an event.
I also recommend that clients steer away from either clothing with complicated or heavy patterns or visibly branded clothing. Of course, if you usually wear a company branded uniform day to day, this is totally fine. But in general, moving away from busy clothing that takes the viewer's eye away from the face of the subject, is always a great tip.
Finally, if you have certain colours in your branding which you'd like to use in some way when it comes to clothing, this can also be a great idea. Not necessarily dressing head to toe in the exact colours(!), but little hints of colour through accessories etc can really help give it a consistent branded look when you're later using the photos within your website design or graphical marketing efforts.
I hope that this has given you some food for thought in readiness for your next headshot session. Above everything, as long as you choose clothing that you're really comfortable in, is a great fit and consists of pieces you really enjoy wearing, you won't go wrong!
P.S - If you have any more questions on what you should wear for your own Headshot Experience, feel free to reach out to me here, I'd love to hear from you.
