World Book Day | 5 last minute costume ideas you probably already have in your wardrobe right now

Suffolk Family Photographer

It's that time of year again when parents the country over, find themselves falling into one of two categories:

1. Those that are super excited at the prospect that World Book Day has rolled around once again and eagerly dust off their sewing kit, brainstorming a list of imaginative costume designs that would not look out of place on a Hollywood film set.

2. Everyone else. Mostly procrastinating right up until the night before. With wine.

Seriously though. My daughter just loves World Book day and all the fun festivities that it brings to her school day and so today I wanted to share with you five stress-free costume ideas that may just come in handy this year if you find yourself in a last minute costume predicament!

1. Charlie Bucket

Style your little one as the star of Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. Simply dig out a blue jumper and some grey school trousers and finish off the costume with a chocolate bar.  Or if you have some gold shiney foil or paper lying around from a past art project, you may like to fashion your very own golden ticket!

2. Matilda

The second Roald Dahl idea comes in the form of a simple blue dress and a red ribbon for the hair.  Finish off the look with a small bundle of books to take into school and you're done!

3. Tintin

For another quick idea, dig out a blue jumper, white shirt and either brown or dark red trousers.  Then gel the hair to the perfect quiff and finish off with a white fluffy toy dog.

4. Angelina Ballerina

Now you may not have a ballerina outfit to hand, but you most likely know someone who does and so ask them very nicely and once you have it, draw on some whiskers with an eye pencil and you're there.

5. Oliver Twist

All brown clothes, cap, a little touch of dirt on the face and a bowl to carry. Job done!

I hope this short guide gives some of you parents out there some last minute inspiration and I’d really love to know what characters your family are planning this year, so be sure to share your costumes in the comments below!

Have an amazing World Book Day filled with fun, laughter and wondrous tales.
